Mary Elizabeth "Liz" (Fay) Kimball, 99, of Clinton passed away on Sunday, January 11, 2026 at the Katherine Luther Home, Clinton.
Liz Wrote:
I was born on February 26, 1926, in Kirkland, the only child of William Fay and Clara (Bodmer) Fay. I grew up helping on our family farm and walked to a one-room schoolhouse on Bristol Road before graduating as salutatorian of the Class of 1943 from Clinton Central School.
I continued my education at Syracuse University, where I was a junior editor of The Daily Orange and a member of the senior women’s honorary, Eta Pi Upsilon. On August 23, 1947, at the Church of the Annunciation in Clark Mills, I married the love of my life, Richard O. Kimball. We shared a very happy marriage until his death in 1997.
I was associated with the Kirkland Town Library for over 50 years. I served as Library Director for 36 years and earned my Master of Library Science degree from SUNY Albany in 1982. I retired in 1993, continued working part-time for another 10 years, and then volunteered at the library until 2019.
I was a lifelong member of the Church of the Annunciation in Clark Mills and sang in the church choir for more than 30 years. I especially loved spending time with my family, summers at our family camp on Kayuta Lake, and winters in Florida. I also enjoyed many bus trips with my dear friend, Jean Ashforth, traveling throughout the United States and twice to Europe.
I am survived by my children: Susan Kimball and Tom Catterson of Clinton; Fay and Russell Gill, of West Newbury, MA.,; Douglas and Sharon Kimball of Sherrill; Lynn Kimball and Al Zenker of Melbourne, FL., Kathleen and Mark Pianka of Russia, NY, and my daughter-in-law, Marilyn Kimball of Greenwich.
I am also survived by my grandchildren: Jennifer and Kenneth James; Alison Kimball Peto; Andrew and Kim Kimball; Nathaniel Catterson; Matthew Catterson and Sarah Matula; Samuel and Meghan Catterson; Alexander Gill and Meghan Ramsey; Kevin Kimball and Hope Brinn; Carter Kimball; James Rashford and Carol Breen; Benjamin Rashford and Dannele Peck; Rebecca Kimball and Bob Jones; Kyle and Danielle Kimball, and Morgan and Jim Mattice.
Great-grandchildren; Olivia, Emma, Nate, Jackson, Dylan, Quinn, Ryder, Avery, Anais, Alyssa, Jessica, Luci, Abigail, Trevor, Leigha, Peyton and Hailee.
I was predeceased by my beloved husband, Richard, my son William C. Kimball in 2015, and my parents.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at the Church of the Annunciation, 7616 East South St., (Clark Mills) Clinton, NY 13323, in the spring. Date and time to be announced.
Interment in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Clinton, will follow.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Kirkland Town Library, 55 1/2 College St., Clinton, NY 13323. or the Church of the Annunciation.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the R.P. Heintz Funeral Service, Inc., 10 E. Park Row, Clinton, NY 13323.
