Jane M. Doughty Obituary
Jane M. Doughty, 99, of Deansboro, passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by family on Saturday, March 21, 2026.
Born on May 21, 1926, in New York City, Jane was the daughter of the late Frederic and Florence (McCallum) Manion. She was raised in Ferndale, NY and graduated from Liberty High School. She also attended The College of New Rochelle.
On November 9, 1946, she was united in marriage to Francis R. Doughty, Jr. at St. Peter’s Church in Liberty, NY. A loving union of 66 years before his passing on June 1, 2013.
In her earlier years, Jane worked at her father’s store, Fred Manion General Store, in Ferndale. Later, she worked at Sullivan County National Bank in Liberty and Hayes National Bank in Clinton.
A devoted communicant of St. Mary’s Church in Clinton, Jane was deeply active in parish life, especially through the Prayer Line. She was a member of the Barton Hose Company Ladies Auxiliary and generously gave her time transcribing textbooks to braille for The Central Association for the Blind. Jane found great joy in sewing and knitting, creating beautiful handmade pieces for her family, and preemie blankets for the NICU at Valley Medical Center in San Jose, CA. She also volunteered at the Deansboro Library, where she remained an active presence in the community.
Jane is survived by her loving children: Ellen D. McKee of Cupertino, CA; Jane F. Doughty of Sanford, ME; Florence D. and Timothy Proulx, of Swartz Creek, MI; Christiana D. and David Rothwell of Poland, NY; James C. and Patricia Doughty, of Waterville, NY; Thomas M. Doughty, of Deansboro, NY; Joseph V. and Andrea Doughty of Chapel Hill, NC; and a sister-in-law, Beverly Doughty, of Greene, NY; 21 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren, along with many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband, Jane was predeceased by a son, Frederic R. Doughty, a daughter and son-in-law, Claire L. and Brian Gadbois, daughter-in-law, Gloria Byrne, brother-in-law, James E. Doughty, sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Jean and George Dias, an infant sister, Ellen Mary and infant brother Frederic.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Mary’s Church, 13 Marvin St., Clinton, NY 13323, at 12:00 noon on Saturday, March 28, 2026.
Interment in St. Peter’s Cemetery, Liberty, will be held at 1pm on Monday, March 30, 2026.
In keeping with Jane’s wishes, there will be no calling hours.
