Muriel B. Hanes 1924 – 2021 New Hartford – Muriel B. Hanes, 96, of New Hartford, passed away peacefully on Monday, February 22, 2021 at her home. Muriel was born October 2, 1924 in Gloversville, NY, the daughter of James and Olive (Hollenbeck) Brown. She was raised and educated in Gloversville and went on to graduate from SUNY Cobleskill. On April 27, 1946, Muriel married Harold Hanes at North Main Street Methodist Church in Gloversville. The couple shared a union of nearly 71 years until Mr. Hanes’ passing on April 10, 2017. Muriel had been employed as a dietician with the Nathen Littauer Hospital in Gloversville. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in New Hartford. Muriel also belonged to a Bible Study Group for over 50 years. She enjoyed watching baseball and was an avid NY Yankee fan. Muriel was a homemaker who loved her family, especially her grandchildren. Muriel is survived by three daughters and two sons-in-law, Charlene Thompson, FL, LeeAnn and Gary Brockett, Clinton, Suzanne and Scott Meisel, FL; a son and daughter-in-law, James and Claire Hanes, NC. Also surviving are 17 grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren, and 4 great-great-grandchildren. Besides her husband, she is predeceased by a son, David, in 1988. Mrs. Hanes’ funeral services will be held privately at the convenience of the family. Interment will take place in Crown Hill Memorial Park, Clinton. In keeping with Muriel’s wishes, there are no calling hours. Those wishing may donate to First United Methodist Church, New Hartford in Muriel’s memory. Arrangements are entrusted to R.P.
