Obituary of Joanne S. Blake

Joanne S. Blake 1936 – 2021 Syracuse / Clinton – Joanne S. Blake, 85, a resident of Katherine Luther Home in Clinton, formerly of Syracuse, NY, passed away Monday, July 5, 2021 at the nursing home. Joanne was born March 12, 1936 in Syracuse, the daughter of Arthur and Katherine (Kies) Schweitzer. She was raised and educated in Syracuse, graduating from Syracuse Central High School, and then went on to earn her Associate’s degree in Business. On June 3, 1961, Joanne married Robert H. Blake at Atonement Lutheran Church, Syracuse. She was a member of St. Michael’s Lutheran Church in Camillus and sang in the church choir. She also sang in the Masterworks Chorale of CNY. Joanne was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and the Tuscarora Golf Club in Marcellus. Joanne was a devoted mother who enjoyed the presence of her family. Her many hobbies included baking, canning, knitting, crocheting, crossword puzzles, and golf. She was the treasurer for countless organizations through the years. She especially liked to knit preemie hats for newborns at local hospitals and lap blankets for residents of the Lutheran Home. Joanne is survived by her beloved husband, Robert Blake, Syracuse; her son and daughter-in-law, David and Michelle Blake, New Hampshire; her daughter and son-in-law, Diane and David Cushion, New Hampshire; and her sister, Marie Simons, South Carolina. She is predeceased by a sister, Marilyn Fantauzzi, and a brother, Arthur Schweitzer. Those wishing may donate to St. Michael’s Lutheran Church or to the Katherine Luther Home in Joanne’s memory.
