Mary Helene Hamlin
1956 – 2022
Melbourne, FL / Clinton, NY – Mary Helene Hamlin, 65, formerly of Ilion, NY and of Clinton, NY, passed away Saturday, January 22, 2022 at her home in Melbourne, FL, after a long illness.
Helene was born on November 24, 1956, in Geneva, NY, the third of seven children of Donald and Helen (Monahan) Hamlin. She was a graduate of Clinton Central School, of SUNY Institute of Technology, Utica, and of The University of Buffalo Law School. Helene practiced law with Scholl and Hamlin, P.C. in Utica, NY and Ilion, NY for many years. She was a member of St. Mary’s Church in Clinton prior to moving to Florida.
Helene was known for the many things she did for those she met. During their illnesses, she cared for both of her parents; for her longtime companion, James Rowland, and she helped Michael Lane with the care of his sister.
Helene is survived by her loving fiancé, Michael Lane, Melbourne, FL; three sisters, Donna Hamlin, Berkeley, CA, Susan Hamlin Nasci (& John), Rome, NY, Nancy Hamlin, Charlotte, NC; one brother, Richard Hamlin, Denver, CO; one brother-in-law, Bryan (& Heather) Diliberto, Merritt Island, FL; her nieces and nephews, Angelika Harkins, Maya Harkins, Julya Hamlin, Courtney Diliberto, Tela Diliberto, Garrett Hamlin, Paige (& Daniel) Sosnowski, and Gaetano Nasci. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by two sisters, Kathryn Diliberto and Teresa Hamlin.
Helene’s family is eternally grateful to Michael Lane for the extraordinary care and compassion he showed Helene during her long illness. They were each other’s first date about 50 years ago as teens and found their way back together about four years ago.
Helene’s funeral services, entrusted to R.P. Heintz Funeral Service, Inc., 10 East Park Row, Clinton, will take place privately at the convenience of the family. Interment will take place in St. Mary’s Parish Cemetery, Clinton.
