1932 – 2022
Vernon Center – Dwayne T. Geary, 89, of Vernon Center, passed away Tuesday, April 5, 2022 at the Katherine Luther Home in Clinton.
Dwayne was born May 7, 1932 in Kingston, NY, the son of Kenneth and Mildred (Terwilliger) Geary. After graduating high school, he went on to attend Rensselear Polytechnic Institute. In 1949, Dwayne joined the US Army and served his country during the Korean War. On September 20, 1958, Dwayne married Beverly Wilkins at Sacred Heart Church in Albany, NY, sharing a union of 60 years, until her passing in 2018. He had been employed as a computer programmer for General Electric in Schenectady and Utica. Dwayne was of the Roman Catholic faith and a member of Church of the Annunciation in Clark Mills. He was a member of the Sylvan Beach American Legion Post #1153 and of the Yorkville VFW Post #6001. He had been a Boy Scout Leader of Troop 52 in New Hartford. Dwayne was an outdoorsman who enjoyed fishing, hunting and camping. He greatly enjoyed photography and travelling with his wife, having visited 49 of the 50 states together. In later years, the couple became “snowbirds” and made their second home in Arizona.
Dwayne is survived by his two daughters, Debra Paternoster (& Joseph Wuest), Vernon Center, Diana (& Walter) Weydig, Lakeland, Florida; a grandson, Anthony (& Janelle) Paternoster; great-grandson, Aiden Michael Paternoster; & Joe’s three children, Amy Nelson (& her children, Jaylen Charron and Tayler Nelson), Richard Wuest, and Emily Wuest. Also surviving is a brother, Ronald “Bud” (& Dollie) Geary, Georgia. Besides his wife, Dwayne is predeceased by a niece, Karen, and by a nephew, David.
Mr. Geary’s Memorial Mass will take place on Friday, April 22, 2022 at 10:30 am at the Church of the Annunciation in Clark Mills, where his Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Interment will follow in St. Paul’s Cemetery, Paris Hill. There are no public calling hours.
