Obituary of Daisy L. Cushman
Daisy Lee Cushman
1947 - 2023
Bridgewater, NY - Daisy Lee Cushman, 76, of Bridgewater, passed away in Cooperstown, NY on Tuesday, June 13, 2023.
Daisy was born on March 29th, 1947, in Richfield Springs, NY, the oldest daughter of Bernard C and Caroline V. (Ingersoll) Cushman. Daisy was her mother’s right hand while raising a large family on a farm. Throughout her life, she would continue to be a mother to anyone who needed one. As a young adult, she traveled the country, searching for the place that felt most like home, making friends along the way. While she left a piece of her heart in so many places, especially the rugged coast and western woods of Maine, she ultimately returned to her home in central New York, where she spent years caring for her long-time partner, Charles Barrett and her mother, Caroline. She was a voracious reader; adventuring on the seven seas, rounding up cattle on the western prairies, learning about world history, and solving the most intriguing mysteries. When she wasn’t hanging on every word of the latest book, Daisy found great joy in baking, hosting tea parties, painting, gardening, or telling anyone who would listen a story about one of her beloved children, grandchildren, or great grandchildren.
Daisy’s memory lives on in her children Maurice Cushman, Carolee Sternthal and her husband Chris, Keith Underwood, Anna Nelson and her husband Drew, and step-son Mark Bradbury and his wife Jessica. She also leaves behind her dear sister Beatrice Dennis, brothers and their spouses, Gary and Nellie Cushman, John and Wendy Cushman, Russell and Denise Warren, and many cherished grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. A true believer in reincarnation, Daisy was looking forward to swirling in the heavens with the many loved ones who passed before her; most of all her parents, her siblings Bernie Jr., Kit, Paul, Ruth, and her companion of more than 30 years, Charlie.
The legacy of Daisy’s generous spirit and sweet nature will be a blessing for those who loved her. A celebration of her life and a tea party are being planned for this summer, including internment at Schuyler Lake Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to The American Heart Association in her memory.
