1930 – 2023

 

New Hartford – Bernard J. Wolff, 93, a resident of the Presbyterian Home for CNY, formerly of Clinton, passed away Wednesday, October 4, 2023 at the home.

            Bernard was born May 26, 1930, in Rome, NY, the son of James and Elizabeth (Wolff) Shanley.  He was adopted by his uncle and aunt, George and Edith Wolff, at the age of three after his mother’s passing.  Bernard was a high school graduate and attended Seminary in Rochester.  Although he did not take the final vows to become a priest, he remained devoted to the Catholic church throughout his life.  Bernard was employed with the Rome DDSO for many years, caring for those in need.

            Although he didn’t have children of his own, he is survived Shawn (Mrs. Richard) Petrie, Westmoreland and her sons Shane and Matthew, who he thought of as his children and grandchildren.  He is also survived by a brother, Thomas Nelson, Wisconsin as well as many nieces and nephews.  Bernard is predeceased by Richard Petrie, and twelve siblings.

            The family offers a special thank you and their heartfelt appreciation to Kelly Leuschner for the many years of care and kindness she had given to Bernard. 

            A graveside service for Mr. Wolff will be held on Monday, October 9, 2023 at 11:00 am at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Clinton.  Those wishing may donate to St. Mary’s Church, Clinton in Bernard’s memory.
