Kurt Schachtler, 88, of Shanley Rd., passed away on Tuesday, May 21, 2024 at Wynn Hospital, Utica. He was born in Utica on December 28, 1935, a son of the late Ulrich and Johanna (Alabor) Schachtler. Raised in Waterville, he graduated from Waterville High School. On April 21, 1956, in St. Bernard’s Church, Waterville, he was united in marriage to Katherine “Kay” Sullivan.

Kurt owned and operated Schachtler Farms in Waterville for over 52 years, until his retirement due to health issues. He served as councilman for the Town of Marshall for 28 years and was a charter member of the Waterville and Deansboro Lions Club. He enjoyed playing cards with family and friends and golfing. Kurt especially loved listening and dancing to polka music and attending events with the Fritz’s Polka Band and watching Molly B. Polka Party on television.

Surviving are his wife, Kay, two daughters and son-in-law; Patricia Scalzo of Sauquoit, Judith and Domenico “Dom” DiCioccio, of Clinton; four sons and two daughters-in-law; Michael and Sandra Schachtler, of Whitesboro, John Schachtler, of Clinton, Gary and Theresa Schachtler, of Clinton, Eric “Rick” Schachtler, of Oriskany Falls, grandchildren; Katrina Scalzo, Curtis and Robin Scalzo, Cassandra and Rachel DiCioccio, Chris and Kim Schachtler, Erica and Rick Maxam, Kerri Majka, Mary Schachtler, Becky Ann and Brian Carney, Amy Moles, Chelsea Schachtler, Kelly and Jon Lawton, Justin and Liz Schachtler, Andrew, Jordan Schachtler, great-grandchildren; Callahan, Abigail, Ashley and Colin Kelsey, Hunter, Avery, Taylor, Clayton, Kiersten, Kyle, Jaxon, Ella, Lucas, Lewis, William, Joseph, Aiden,  Caleb, Quinn; great great grandchildren, Finnegan and Leland; a brother-in-law; Thomas (Jean) Sullivan, of Florida, and many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his parents, father-in-law and mother-in-law, John and Jane Sullivan, two daughters-in-law, Crystal Schachtler and Betty Schachtler, two granddaughters; Amy Lynn Schachtler and Trista Schachtler, great-granddaughter, Isla, two brothers and sisters-in-law, Peter and Sarah Schachtler, and Fred and Caroline Schachtler, three brothers-in-law and two sister-in-law, John Sullivan, Bill and Annette Sullivan  and Carol and Ken Sweetland.

Friends are invited and may call on Tuesday, May 28, 2024 from 4:00-7:00pm at the R.P.

Heintz Funeral Home, 10 E. Park Row, Clinton, NY 13323. The rosary will be recited at 3:45pm.

Services will be held from St. Bernard’s Catholic Church, 199 Stafford Ave., Waterville, NY 13480 on  Wednesday, May 29, 2024 at 11:00am.

Interment will follow in Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Whitesboro.

A Celebration of Kurt’s life will continue from 1-5pm at the VFW, 49 Franklin Ave., Clinton.
