Joan Marie Carroll, 97, of Clinton, passed away on Wednesday, July 10, 2024 at Crouse Hospital, Syracuse. She was born February 5, 1927 in Utica a daughter of the late Carson B. and Irene (Haggerty) Cunningham. Joan graduated from New Hartford High School Class of 1944 and St. Elizabeth’s Hospital School of Nursing as an Registered Nurse in 1947. On June 9, 1951 at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, New Hartford, she was united in marriage to William Leo Carroll. Mr. Carroll passed away on April 8, 2004. Joan had started a career in nursing, but raising a family was what brought her the greatest joy in her life.
She was a communicate of St. Mary’s Church, Clinton; an active member of the St. Mary’s Women’s Club; a member of the Guild of St. Elizabeth’s Hospital, Utica ; the New Hartford American Legion Post 1376 Auxiliary and the Ancient Order of Hibernian Society. Her commitment to others and her community resulted in over 3,000 hours of volunteering. Joan loved all sports, she enjoyed bowling , sewing and ceramics.
Surviving are her children, Gary and Patricia Carroll of N. Utica, Janice and James Pearsall of Fairport, Gregory and Maureen Carroll of Cazenovia; grandchildren, Hayley and Robert McCarty of Glen Falls, Thomas and Jennifer Pearsall of Salina, KS, Amy Castillo Santa Fe Springs, CA, Brian and Betsy Pearsall of Delmar, Connor Carroll of Morrisville, Caeli Carroll of Rochester; great grandchildren, Sydney and Riley McCarty; Owen, Violet and Georgia Pearsall; Celeste and Javier Rivas, Quintin and Mackenzie Castillo, Scott and Graham Pearsall; great-great-granddaughter, Cecelia Rivas and several, nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by an Infant daughter Becky.
A Mass of Christian burial will be Celebrated on Wednesday, July 17, 2024 at 11:00 AM from St. Mary’s Church, 13 Marvin St., Clinton, NY 13323. The Central New York Nurses Honor Guard will perform the Nightingale Tribute prior to the Mass. Interment will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery . There will be no calling hours.
