Obituary of Cathy Bennett

Cathy M. Bennett   1948 – 2018

CLINTON – Cathy M. Bennett, 69, of Clinton, passed away after a long illness on Saturday, August 18, 2018 at Faxton-St. Luke’s Healthcare Center in New Hartford with her family by her side.

Cathy was born December 27, 1948 in Huntington, Long Island, NY, the daughter of Frank and Marion (Hess) Bennett.  She was a graduate of Whitesboro Central High School, Class of 1967, and went on to earn Bachelor’s degrees in Education and Sociology from SUNY Brockport in 1971, and her Master’s in Education from SUNY Cortland in 1975.  Cathy went on to teach at Oriskany Falls Union Free School District (annexed to Waterville Central School District in 1983).  She was listed as the “2004-2005 Who’s who among America’s Teachers” Journal.  Cathy also enjoyed working as co-manager for the Jack Boyton Community Pool in Clinton each year.  She was a hostess at the Skenandoa Club in Clinton.  Upon retiring from teaching in 2004, Cathy worked several years as a part-time receptionist for Dr. Marsette Vona at his Dental practice.

Cathy loved the outdoors – her favorite place was anywhere near a river, lake, or the ocean, and her favorite time of day was early morning so she could watch the sunrise.  She enjoyed camping, swimming, and gardening.  Cathy also greatly enjoyed reading, doing research on the computer, mathematics, and writing curriculums.  She enjoyed all types of music and playing the piano – often hymns from the Methodist Church.  Cathy enjoyed hearing jokes and greatly loved taking care of her cats.

Cathy is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Christy Lynn and Frederick Hampf, Bellport, Long Island; her brother, James R. (& Kathryn) Bennett, Liverpool; nephews, Craig (& Sandi) Bennett, Mark Bennett; niece, Julie (& Andy) Criss; great nieces and nephews, Colin, Isaac, Lauren, and Ryan; as well as her special friend, Stephen Card.

A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, September 1, 2018, at 5:00 pm at the R.P. Heintz Funeral Service, Inc., 10 East Park Row, Clinton.  Interment will take place privately at the convenience of the family.  In keeping with Cathy’s wishes, there are no calling hours.

Those wishing may donate to your local humane society in Cathy’s memory.
