1936 – 2023
Whitesboro – Gerard J. Heintz, 87, of Whitesboro, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, September 15, 2023 at Faxton-St. Luke’s Healthcare Center, New Hartford.
Gerry was born August 10, 1936 in Utica, the son of Joseph and Viola (Goppert) Heintz. He was raised and educated in Utica, and received his Nursing Degree through Utica Psychiatric Center. He furthered his education at Utica College, receiving his Bachelor's Degree in Psychology. On July 16, 1955, Gerry married the love of his life, Evelyn Dudeck, in Sacred Heart Church, Utica, sharing a union of 68 years. Gerry was a Utica Firefighter for 13 years. He continued his employment at Utica Psychiatric Center for 35 years. After receiving his RN and Bachelor's Degree, he was appointed the Head of Utilization Review.
Gerry's family was the most important thing to him. He loved attending family parties and his grandchildren's sporting events. His many holiday traditions will live on forever. Gerry was an avid fisherman and enjoyed fishing with his son and grandson. He was a big New York Yankee fan and hardly ever missed watching them play. He greatly enjoyed going to the casinos, Turning Stone, Atlantic City, and Las Vegas, where he was proud of being a " Diamond Card" member. Gerry was a devote Catholic and a member of Sacred Heart & St. Mary Our Lady of Czestochowa Church in New York Mills.
Gerry is survived by his beloved wife, Evelyn Heintz, Whitesboro; three daughters and sons-in-law, Darlene & Michael Burline, Whitesboro, Deborah and John Higgins, Liverpool, Judith and Todd Santos, Tennessee; a son and daughter-in-law, Gary and Dina Heintz, Whitesboro; Fifteen grandchildren and twenty-three great grandchildren; a brother and sister-in-law, Jack and Yolanda Heintz, Canastota, as well as many nieces and nephews. Gerry is predeceased by three sisters, Jill Niles, Carol McCarthy, and Linda Edwards.
Mr. Heintz’s funeral will be held on Saturday, September 23, 2023 at 10:00 AM at Sacred Heart & St. Mary Our Lady of Czestochowa Church in New York Mills, where his Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Interment will follow in Mount Olivet Cemetery, Whitestown. There are no calling hours. Those wishing may donate to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in Gerry’s memory.
